A tradition of care and well-being has prevailed in this organization for the last century. In the honor of this tradition during the centenary year, Tata Power plans to launch a series of initiatives to reaffirm its belief in the sense of complete and all round benefit for all the people associated with its journey. Here is a brief overview of each of them for you to witness.
Professional competence in today's power sector requires not just cutting-edge technical skills, but also effective commercial and interpersonal skills aligned to the specific needs of the power industry. Despite the vital importance of industry-specific skills, training for these skills can be extremely difficult to source. Understanding this, TPSDI has employed a 360 degree approach for holistic development of workers in power-skills and encourage them to reach their full potential.
Skill development is an essential ingredient for India's future economic growth as the country transforms itself into an internationally competitive economy. Creating new jobs is only a part of the equation for employment in today's developing India as over 12 million youth are joining the workforce each year and hence bridging the existing skill gap is of prime importance. Tata Power Skill Development Institute aims to bridge this skill gap in the power sector by training the workforce engaged in the sector with skills that make them more employable and help them excel in their fields.
The programs rolled out by TPSDI would initially focus on Tata Power's Associates' workforce and then eventually be rolled out to other companies in the power sector.
The Dagachhu hydro power project aims to augment the power market in India by transmitting clean energy across the border. It is the first cross border project registered under UNFCCC’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Through this project, India will be able to pave way for essential clean energy development process, which is a much-needed requirement for the power sector and is also in line with Tata Power’s commitment towards promoting clean and renewable energy.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Anil Sardana, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Power, said, “We are delighted to announce the commissioning of the Dagachhu hydro project in Bhutan. Hydro power is an intrinsic part of our clean energy mix and we aim to develop new Hydro project of yet another 450 MW this year. We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint through the generation of 20-25 per cent of our total capacity through clean and renewable energy sources. We would like to thank the Royal Government of Bhutan, Druk Green Power Corporation, Ministry of External Affairs of Bhutan & India, Ministry of Power, GoI and all the stakeholders, for the support extended in setting up this project in Bhutan.”
Being the first public-private partnership in infrastructure investment in Bhutan, Dagachhu Hydro Project serves as a model for other countries - particularly those with a low GHG-emitting grid - to harness the benefits of CDM towards enhancing the socio-economic development of the country while meeting the escalating energy demand in a sustainable way.
Tata Power has always placed special emphasis on the utilization of clean sources to produce power and reducing its carbon footprint on the planet. In line with this commitment and the centenary year celebration theme of 'Invisible Goodness', the company has announced commissioning of the 126 MW Dagachhu Hydro project in Bhutan. Tata Power as a company has always placed special emphasis on the utilization of clean sources to produce power thereby reducing the carbon footprint on the planet. To this effect, the company decided to add to the existing generation capacity a total of 120 MW commemorating the centenary year.
Tata Power announces commissioning of second unit of 126 MW Dagachhu Hydro Power Project in Bhutan to provide clean power to India National, March 17, 2015 Tata Power announces commissioning of Unit 1 of 126 MW Dagachhu Hydro project in Bhutan National, March 03, 2015We as an organisation strongly believe in growing along with the community and build a sustainable organisation, community and country. Upholding this legacy Mr. Ashok Shethi, COO & ED, Tata Power announced its association with 'MANAM MANUSHULAM', Social Welfare Organization, for CSR activities in and around Nellore. 'MANAM MANUSHULAM' as an organization are engaged in several activities such as blood donation camps, environmental awareness programs, providing assistance through night street shelters for the destitute, providing value added facilities to orphaned children, conducting awareness sessions at community marriages to inculcate a habit of tree plantation etc.
TATA POWER has been carrying out distribution of fruit tree sapling to local villagers every year, every year we distribute 1000 fruit trees to villagers in Bhira area. This year we are celebrating centenary year, on this occasion we decided to distribute 5000 fruit trees to community. In presence of Mr. A G Patil, Mr. G B Deshmukh, Mr. Dilip Kawade, and Mr. Deepak Kulkarni (Treasurer – Hydro Employees Union), we distributed fruit tree saplings of various species to community on World Environment Day at Bhira.
This activity has been happening since last five years and now the saplings have grown up in to trees and started bearing fruits. Some villagers have come and expressed their gratitude as the saplings given by TATA POWER has turned out to be source of economic benefit to them. They also requested TATA POWER to distribute more mango sapling to them as climate is more conducive for mango growing. Hence this year being special for TATA POWER we are distributing 5000 fruit sapling including 3000 mango sapling to Patnus villagers.
During the Centenary Year, we decided to enable our people, who dedicated their efforts for the company, to revive their passions. This idea was born out of the fact that the people in Tata Power are a goldmine of talents and would be more than happy to share it with their fellow colleagues and families. Hence, a novel platform was created under the banner of Passion Pursuits which would act as a bridge for both kinds of people.
The initiative took off extremely well and resulted in a lot of latent talent surfacing across locations, in a way which led to intra-location bonding of like-minded people. In the locations which are slightly secluded from the mainstream cities this initiative resulted in creating clubs for the employees and specially for their family members so they have yet another avenue to socialize on a much more personal level. Within a week of the launch of the initiative almost 600 people from across divisions have benefited from it in various skills such as Marathi, Parsi, Moghlai cuisines, photography, yoga, guitar, chess, cricket, aerobics, painting etc.
