Powerlinks Transmission Limited is a joint venture between The Tata Power Company Limited (51%) and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (49%). It is the testimony of pioneering Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in the power transmission sector in India. The company was formed with a sole objective of setting up the transmission link between Siliguri in West Bengal to Mandola in Uttar Pradesh (near New Delhi), covering a distance of 1166 kms.
The transmission lines facilitate in evacuation of power from 1020 MW Tala Hydro Electric Project in Bhutan to Eastern Region and then to transfer surplus power from North Eastern States to Northern Region. The beneficiary states are West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, U.P, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi and J&K.

Powerlinks Transmission Limited was previously known as Tala - Delhi Transmission Limited. The company was established on 4th May, 2001 as a project specific "SPV Company" to take up implementation of transmission system associated with Tala Hydro - Electric Project through Joint Venture route on Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis.
Transmission lines of the company comprises of 400 KV D/C transmission line of Quad configuration having 3000 MW capacity from Siliguri (West Bengal) to Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) and twin configuration having 1500 MW capacity from Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) to Mandola (Uttar Pradesh).

The Company carries out Operation & Maintenance of the Transmission lines and adheres to the annual maintenance plan schedule prepared in the beginning of each year. Some of the latest technology equipment used for O&M activities is Thermo vision Cameras for thermal scanning, Line Fault Locator for locating the fault, Punctured Insulator Detection (PID) to detect defective insulators, etc.
Power links has the transmission license for 25 years and is expected to carry out the Operation & Maintenance of the transmission lines up to the year 2028.
